Authenticity & Creativity
The snow is melting here in Vermont, where I live. The geese are flying north. Returning to the shores of Lake Champlain, as they do every year. I hear them, even before I see them. Their joyfully cacophonous symphony of honks fills the air above my neighborhood, announcing their presence to those of us who have been anticipating their return. In their reality, honking helps maintain the integrity of their symmetrical V-formation as they travel those great and perilous distances.
Last Fall I watched them over several days depart in waves, flock after flock after flock , honking as they prepared to take flight. Their return is a joyous harbinger of the much longed-for Spring. It is also a timely and welcomed reminder to be present to what is, and grateful to all that sustains us, whatever that may be for each of us.
In the spirit of gratitude that sits on the tireless wings of the returning geese, I offer this inspiration:
Remembering A People Place - attributed to William J. Crocker
If this is not a place where tears are understood,
Where do I go to cry?
If this is not a place where my spirits can take wing,
Where do I go to fly?
If this is not a place where my questions can be asked,
Where do I go to seek?
If this is not a place where my feelings can be heard,
Where do I go to speak?
If this is not a place where you’ll accept me as I am,
Where can I go to be?
If this is not a place where I can try to learn and grow,
Where can I be just me?
